Turabian Style Guide

Turabian style, as one of the most popular writing styles, has its specific features. In order to use it properly, a writer should be aware of its main features and peculiarities. Very often the given style is mentioned in connection with Chicago Turabian style as their structures are similar and closely related.

At Buy-Custom-Essays.org, we give a short description of the paper written in a given style.

  1. Very important part of the Turabian style paper is citations and footnotes. While usage of footnotes should be discussed with the professor, it is necessary to use citations for each source. Complete citations for a book can be represented by a simple scheme: author – title – place of publication – publisher – date of publication – pages. It is also necessary to explain the shortening of the title after citations.
  2. Turabian style bibliography pages should be numbered as well as the rest pages of the paper in a following way: the first page – at the bottom of the page in its center; the rest of pages – in the right corner at the top of the page.
  3. It is necessary to use double space and 1” margins from all sides of the page. At the same time, block quotations (quotations of five and more lines) require single space. Moreover, it should be separated from the main text by blank lines before and after it.
  4. Single space is also used between notes and bibliography entries within entries and double space is used between them.
  5. Title page of paper written in Turabian style should contain the name of a student, his/her department name, the number of course, and submission date.
  6. Title page should be followed by a blank page.
  7. Try to use more primary than secondary sources.
  8. All numbers at the beginning of the sentence and those smaller than one hundred should be spelled.
  9. Avoid right-hand justification.
  10. If you use periodicals, remember that they can be divided into magazines, scholarly journals, and newspapers that contain indexes for easier information search.

How to prepare footnotes and endnotes.

  1. Footnotes are normally used at the end of each page to which they refer. If the footnote is too long, it can be transferred to the next page.
  2. Endnotes are used at the end of the paper.
  3. Arabic numerals have to be used to mark endnotes and footnotes. They should be placed above the line.
  4. Numbers of both endnotes and footnotes usually follow the extract to which they refer.
  5. If you mention a specific work for the first time in your paper, you should indicate the following information in the entry: full name of the author, work title, references to volume or page, if necessary, and information regarding publication. Its shortened form includes either shortened title or abbreviation “ibid”, if the note was taken from the same work as the previous one.
  6. If the citation for a specific reference already exists, you may choose one of two options. The first one is to indicate a family name of the author, book title and page reference. The second one is used when a writer cites couple of works of the same author. In this case, family name of the author and page reference with the book title is used.

Our Turabian style guide also deals with bibliography.

  1. For Turabian style format, bibliography is organized alphabetically.
  2. In bibliography, family name goes first, followed by the first name.
  3. Unlike note, where commas are used, periods are used at the end of each part in bibliography.
  4. If you use a chapter from a book or an extract from a newspaper or magazine, page numbers should be used.

Taking the above mentioned information into consideration it is very easy to use this style in the process of papers writing.
