1.      Before complaining, ask yourself, “Is my complaint reasonable?”

Sometimes, you might be annoyed with loud music or some other noises in the dorm. In such cases, before going to your RA to complain, ask yourself whether you have the right to do so. First, the dorm is not your own property and you cannot ask your neighbor to turn off the music just because you are preparing for the exams or want to take an afternoon nap. It’s college, and it’s natural that people not only study there, but also have fun. So, in such cases, try to solve these issues in a different way – buy earplugs or take earphones and switch on some calming and soothing music.

2.      Talk to your neighbors first

If you are not satisfied with your neighbors’ behavior, try talking to THEM first before going to your RA. The difference between high school and college life is that in college, you should learn to cope with problems yourself and do this in an adult way. So, discuss everything. Dealing with rude people mostly needs a proper approach. Thus, even if someone is rude to you, be nice and friendly to him/her. This is one of the best relationship tips.

3.      Consult an RA

If talking and discussing issues with your neighbors don’t help and you cannot sleep and lead a peaceful life because of their loud music or improper behavior, it’s time to address your RA for help. Since RAs know how to deal with the toughest situations, you can consult him/her without hesitation.

4.      Don’t stoop to their level

Sometimes, your neighbors might not only be annoying due to their rude or impolite behavior but because they are a kind of people who pressurize you. For example, there are cliques (especially of girls) who are gossiping about others and want you to join their “team.” Try to avoid such companies.

As you see, living in a dorm is not a piece of cake. If you want to establish friendly relationships with your neighbors, use our tips.
